West End IDPA.  We meet on the 4th Sunday of each month and start shooting around 9AM (updated 4-23-12 per BS, BC).  You should plan to arrive early to set up your gear up at your car and be ready for a Safety Briefing with shooting starting shortly afterward. We shoot at paper and steel targets. Typical ranges are from 3 to 15 yards and on occasion may be as far as 35 yards. Typical equipment needed is a .38/9mm through .45 pistol or revolver with 3 or more magazines, 4 or more moon clips/speed loaders, eye protection, hearing protection, a holster and a dual magazine holder for the above. Holsters used should be practical for self-defense either concealed carry or duty style, which are suitable for all day continuous wear. A “concealment garment”, like a vest, shirt or jacket to cover your gear will be needed. A hat and sunscreen are also recommended.
We typically have 8 stages of fire with a required round count of about 125 for the match. You should bring 200 rounds for your pistol. The matches are designed to be fun and safe for the everyman (or every woman) shooter. Your basic self-defense, stock out of the box gun is recommended for IDPA. No “race guns” are permitted for IDPA scoring. We promote shooting from different positions, such as standing, sitting, prone, moving etc. We also shoot “from cover” using various kinds of props on our stages. Every match will be different and the IDPA stage designs are all based on gunfight scenarios.
Full capacity magazines can be used, however IDPA stages will have a loaded magazine round limit of 10 rounds to enable citizens of the Peoples Republic of California to compete with shooters from Free America. Many stages will be “Revolver Friendly”, requiring only 6 rounds between reloads. You will gain experience by drawing, reloading, shooting while moving, shooting from cover and use of props at this match. We welcome and encourage first time competitors to come out and shoot with us.

Fees are $10 for WEGC members, $15 for idpa guest shooters and $20 for non-idpa guest shooters. Junior shooters, starting at about 8 years (with a guardian and the necessary safety skills) and less than 18 years old and Active Duty Military, shoot for FREE. Members of law enforcement will shoot for half price if they use their duty rig and firearm. You don’t need a lot of equipment to have a lot of fun at West End IDPA.
