HIGHLIGHTS

Another important vote by the Board was to update the current Range Rules for this year.  The purpose of most of our range policies is to protect the health and lives of our members and guests as well as to safeguard the range itself.  The updates were necessary to identify, clarify, define and organize our range policies for the membership.  The updated 2011 Range Rules state that every member using the range unsupervised is required to have a full-sized shovel in their possession and a fire extinguisher is also recommended. The shovel is necessary for fire prevention and suppression, because we will never run out of dirt to put out a fire on our range!  All Annual member guests must now sign a WEGC Waiver of Liability each time they visit, before using the back ranges. The policy allowing Annual members to have three guests with them while using the range for recreation still continues, while the Events and Matches sponsored by WEGC may have as many guest shooters as their RSO cadre can support.  This will encourage more shooters to share our enjoyment of the shooting sports as described in our club’s by-laws.  The daily use fees for the Main Range have been reduced for Annual members and guests. All junior shooters are free at the Main Range to encourage members to bring their kids and grand kids to West End.  In an effort to reduce range use conflicts, the Board established a trial weekday policy giving priority to the long-range rifle shooters in our club.  On Tuesdays between Sunrise and 12:00 hours, Annual members have priority use the of the 600-yard pad and may request that their fellow members move to the Main Range while they use it, as long as the 600-yard pad is claimed before 08:00 hours.  The remaining weekdays will continue to be first come, first served.  This policy is in effect until the end of August, at which time the Board will review the merits of the policy to determine how it has benefited the membership.  This policy will be posted on the website and will allow members to better plan their Tuesday trips to the range.
