SHOWDOWN 2009 PICTURES

We follow the SASS standards for when revolvers may be drawn, and for when rounds may be inserted into the chamber or carrier of a shotgun. We are, however, very strict about moving with a loaded gun. If there is a live round under the hammer, then at least one foot must be stationary.

All shooters are expected to be familiar with SASS rules.
You are a Safety Officer—You are responsible for your conduct, the conduct of your guests, and that of others within your influence. You must always follow Range Rules.
When somebody yells out “Down range” and proceeds down range, it is okay to continue loading and unloading at the designated tables. Firearms should ALWAYS be pointed into the berms while loading/unloading.

Our stages do not always specify locations for staging your guns. Determining the best way to stage your guns is up to you. Before you shoot, feel free to confirm your approach with the R.O. However, all safety issues must be considered when you place your firearms and any unsafe handling will be penalized appropriately

Each competitor is responsible for his/her competence with firearms. This match is not designed to be a beginner’s match, however we welcome all participants.

No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the range during the shoot.
Please check all firearms before bringing them onto the range—be sure all firearms are empty of “dummy” rounds or any live or expended rounds.

No one will be allowed to shoot if, in the judgment of the Range Officer, they are impaired. Firearms may only be loaded when at the loading table and on the firing line. Cap and ball pistols may only be capped when at the loading table and on the firing line. Please charge only five (5) chambers per stage.

The Unloading Officer must inspect all firearms before they leave the unloading table. Rifles must have their action cycled for the Unloading Officer and chambers inspected. All firearms, whether used or not in the stage, must be inspected, this includes derringers, and cap and ball revolvers. It is acceptable to leave one or more chambers charged in a percussion revolver so long as the caps are removed from the nipples.

If a shooter goes to the loading table with live or spent rounds in any firearm, it will be a Stage DQ for “failure to adhere to loading and unloading procedures,” and will be applied on the previous stage where the infraction actually occurred.

All disputes must be addressed before shooter/posse leaves that stage. If a problem should arise, take it away from the firing line, and have the RO contact the match director. Decisions are final at this point. All shooters must abide by the decision of the Match Official/Director.

Unsafe firearm handling—or rude behaviorwill not be tolerated.
All shooters must conform to minimum SASS dress requirements.

Coaching is allowedand encouraged; however, it will never be considered grounds for a re-shoot. If you do not want coaching, let it be known.

No re-shoots will be given once the first round goes downrange, except for;
—prop or match equipment failure;
—a Range Officer impeding the progress of a shooter;
—timer failure or unrecorded time as determined by the Range Officer and Match Director.
In these cases, the shooter starts over with no misses or penalties, except in the case of safety violations, which carry over to re-shoots.

Motorized Gun carts—We welcome shooters of all skill levels and abilities, but we must request that the use of motorized gun carts be limited to those who need them for disability and/or handicap reasons.

All shooters and spectators must wear eye and hearing protection.

No dry firing at the loading table; no shadow shooting at the firing line.

    • SASS TERRITORIAL GOVERNOR’S SUMMIT 2009 RESULTS

    1. Should we adopt the circle of safety concept for the drawing and holstering of
    handguns from all types of holsters? Holsters must still comply with the 30
    degree maximum cant from vertical requirement and handgun muzzles must
    remain within the four foot circle of safety while drawing and holstering.

    Failed For 50 Against 278 Abstain 4 – 15% in favor

    2. Should we allow Bisley Style Hammers mated with non Bisley Style Grips and
    Bisley Style Grips mated with non Bisley Style Hammers?

    Failed For 204 Against 125 Abstain 3 – 61% in favor

    3. Should we allow the use on adjustable sighted revolvers in all categories
    except Classic Cowboy and Black Powder Categories? That would be to allow
    them in the Duelist and Gunfighter category. They are already legal in all age
    based categories and B Western.

    Failed For 168 Against 160 Abstain 4 – 51% in favor

    4. Should we eliminate the minor safety penalty for overloading a RIFLE? This
    will do away with the double jeopardy penalty for overloading a rifle. Penalties
    for leaving rounds in the rifle would still apply but if a shooter over loaded the
    rifle they could clear within our rules and not be charged a penalty. (The only
    problem I see would be a rifle reload stage – state all reloads must come from
    the body.) Note this only applies to a rifle and NOT to a revolver or shotgun.

    Failed For 181 Against 148 Abstain 3 – 55% in favor

    5. Should we create the new sanctioned shooting category “Frontier Cartridge
    Gunfighter.” The category would follow the equipment and ammo guidelines
    of the current “Frontier Cartridge” category and follow the shooting style
    requirements of the current “Gunfighter” Category.

    Failed For 195 Against 133 Abstain 4 – 59% in favor
